Diablo II Item Generation And Monster Level

Welcome to the Item Generation Guide of Diablo II: Resurrected. In this guide, we'll go over and explain the meanings of terms such as Treasure Class, Quality Level, Monster Level, and how they interact with one other!

How Item Generation Works in Diablo II: Resurrected

It is simple to generate items for players, as well as clients in the game programming. If a player kills a monster, it either drops an item or does not. The server is able to perform a variety of calculations following each kill. Every monster has its own loot table that is based on several factors.

When it comes to item creation, these three terms should be mentioned:

 Treasure Class (TC)

 Quality Level (qlvl).

 Monster Level/Area Level (mlvl/Alvl)

 Treasure Class

The loot tables that have certain base items can be called Treasure Classes. The smallest treasure Class in Diablo 2: Resurrected can be described as Treasure Class 3. It includes base items like Boots and short Staff. Treasure Classes increase in increments of 3 to Treasure Class 87. This will give you a total of 27 Treasure Class.

 Qualitative Level

Within these Treasure Classes each item has Certain Quality Levels (also known as Item Level). For example the Boots item from Treasure Class 3 is Quality Level 3, while the Short Staff is Quality Level 1. Level 1.

QLVLs are classified according to the class. For example, QLVL 1, 2, and 3 belong to the Treasure Class. For instance the QLVLs 1 3, and 3 are in Treasure Class 3. Likewise QLVL 4 6, and 6 are in Treasure Class 6.

So far, we've only been talking about base items. What about Unique or Set items?

The Unique Boots item Hotspur with its High Quality Level 7 and Unique Boots item Hotspur is available in Treasure Class 3. Similar to the unique Short Staff item Bane Ash. The item level for Boots is 3 whereas the level of Short Staff is one. Set and exclusive versions of a base item are always found within the Treasure Class of its base item even though they're much more expensive in level.

The Treasure Classes of Unique or Set items are not dependent on the Quality Levels of their respective items, but rather to the Item Levels of the corresponding base item. You can determine the Treasure Class of a specific Unique or Set item by looking up the Item Level of that item.

 Monster and Area Level

While all monsters are tied to Treasure Class, they also have a specific Monster Level. Like Treasure Classes Monsters are able to drop items of a quality levels that are at or lower than their Monster Level. This level property is directly tied to the Area Level.

These rules are combined to create item generation and monster rarity:

Normal (white) monsters: Treasure Class is less than or equal to the Monster Level in which Monster Level = Area Level

Champion (blue monsters): The Treasure Class is lower than or equal to Monster Level (Area Level +2 equals Monster Level

Unique, random (golden) monsters, as well as their minions. Treasure Class is lower or equal to the Monster Level. Level = Monster Level = Area Level +3.

Monster Level and Monster Rarity are both synonymous with Treasure Class levels. However, certain exceptions to the rules are made for Super Unique and Act Bosses - they are assigned to pre-defined Treasure Classes.

One of the most popular examples is the Super Unique monster Pindleskin. In Hell Act 5, Pindleskin can drop up Treasure Class 87 items. We found out that TC 87, the most powerful class of treasure in Diablo II Resurrected, is where Pindleskin is able to drop all items found in the game.

Wrong! Pindleskin is Monster Level 86. We have discovered that monsters are unable to drop items that have an equivalent Quality Level or lower that their Monster Level. As a result, Pindleskin can't, for example drop Arachnid Mesh. What's the reason? It's in Treasure Class 63. However, it's Quality Level 87. This is a problem to use for Pindleskin’s loot table.

Highest Monsters and Treasure Areas in Diablo II: Resurrected

We know that Treasure Class 87, the most prestigious Treasure Class in Diablo II Resurrected is Treasure Class 87. We also know that item drops are limited to Monster Level as well.

 Treasure Class 87 Monsters

Only the following unique monsters from Act V can be assigned to TC87 on Hell difficulty:

 Level 85 Treasure Areas

Similar to the highest Treasure Class, only a few areas of Diablo II: Resurrected feature the most valuable Treasure Area Level 85. These areas are Alvl 85. They are a good source of loot as you've learned from the item generator rules.
