Looking for the best New World weapons? Amazon's brand-new MMO game shuns the standard class system and gives players the option of using any of the game's eleven weapons at their leisure. While you play with the weapon, you earn mastery points, which are used to unlock abilities and buffs within one of the two tree of talents for the weapon. You can choose up to three weapons skills that are accessible to you when that weapon is equipped with two slots for weapons, which are able to switch between in combat, without having to fiddle with menus.
Although you are able to switch weapons at any point but it's best to choose two that you are able to specialize in and put your money into in particular, as the abilities at the top of each weapon's skill trees are particularly powerful. Each weapon is able to scale off an individual primary attribute and some are able to scale off another attribute. As you progress through levels and earn attribute points, you need to assign points to suit your chosen loadout.
When you're deciding on which weapon to choose, it's advantageous if your two weapons have the same attributes, although there are ways around this issue. For instance amber gems can convert a proportion of your weapon's damage to nature damagethat scales off Focus. So, if you're looking to increase the Focus to Your Life Staff, you can benefit from the investment when dealing with damage using your other weapon.
It's also helpful to carry at least one weapon that can be ranged to take out fleeing or ranged enemies. Each New World weapon is viable in both PvP and PvE, but they are ideal for different situations. They also work with different play styles, so we recommend you test each one to see how you feel about them. We've taken different situations into consideration when weighing them up for our New World weapon tier list.
LIFE STAFF
The life Staff will be your only tool to provide healing. It is, of course, absolutely invaluable for any situation including all types of PvP, to dungeons and levelling. It's not a particularly damaging weapon, so it's not the best weapon for 1v1 duels, but - like we said earlier - if you've specced into Focus then you can put the weapon you're using as a secondary weapon into gems that convert part of the damage to nature-based damage.
We recommend using your Life Staff with heavy armour and a strong, tanky weapon like the Great Axe, Sword and Shield and the Hatchet to make it extremely difficult to eliminate.
GREAT AXE
The Great Axe is a formidable two-hander, which comes with plenty of the ability to control crowds, damage and mobility capabilities. There was a bug in the closed beta where it was able to deal double damage, but regardless of this issue, this Great Axe excels in many scenarios. It also has superior tracking when compared with other melee weapons, which means that you can kill enemies more easily if you're a bit out of reach.
The Gravity Well ability that is part of the Mauler tree is the star of the show, sucking in groups of enemies and preventing them from fleeing. There's a charge movement capability within the Reaper tree, which is fantastic for gap closing, and the Reap skill in the same tree can be used to taunt enemies, which makes it ideal for tanking in the dungeons. The Great Axe a good choice for PvP or facing up against groups of enemies in PvE, as seen in the best New World Great Axe builds.
HATCHET
The Hatchet is a formidable weapon to include in any loadout, and was the bane of every player in the alpha. Alongside the good base damage it also has the Berserk skill is quite powerful, giving you an increase in damage of 20 as well as a self-heal at higher levels, which allows you to stay alive for longer. Self-heal is based on percentage and those with high Constitution perform even better with it.
Provided you use the best New World hatchet builds, this weapon is an excellent 1v1 PvP weapon . Just pop Berserk. If you see your foes are trying to flee try using Feral Rush, hit them in the back , and root them for two seconds. In the Throwing tree, the Infected Throw lowers targets heal ability by 30%. This represents the single healing counter in the game.
SWORD AND SHIELD
The good ol' Sword and Board is great to tank, since you generate lots of threat through blocking. In the early beta, a lot of tanks ran it alongside the Life Staff and put plenty of points into Constitution. It's not the most optimal combination for PvP but it's perfect for dungeons and could be the weapon to build the most powerful New World tank build.
FIRE STAFF
Fancy flinging fireballs at your adversaries? This Fire Staff excels in large-scale PvP like wars. Until you level up the fire staff enough to unlock greater mana management It can be difficult, since it is constantly depleted of power. After you've put some effort in to unlock every ability and put together the top New World fire-fighter designs The staff can deal enormous amounts of damage.
ICE GAUNTLET
The Ice Gauntlet is a great all-rounder, offering great damages and also crowd-control. You can use combos to great effect - Ice Shower roots foes for an instant, then stops moving and dodges, and you can follow up with Ice Storm to further slow them and deal even more damage. Many players have teamed up Ice Gauntlet and Fire Staff Ice Gauntlet and Fire Staff to make their impact even more powerful in PvP.
Entombed is also a fantastic power that makes you invulnerable temporarily and grants you a massive quantity of regeneration mana. You could even burst from it and inflict damage on the enemies around you.
RAPIER
The Rapier is known for its speedy single-target damage. Swishing and swooshing your way around is pretty fun however, the bleeding tree is underwhelming, so most players will choose to use this Grace tree. There's no crowd-control to talk about, but you'll have plenty of mobility with the ability to avoid attacks and deflect them, making this one of the best weapons for battling enemies one-on one. There are a couple of the top New World rapier builds for when you decide to build on this firearm.
WAR HAMMER
War Hammer War Hammer is a relatively slow weapon with no gap closer, however it has good crowd control. This makes it excellent for PvE. However, it's not the best choice for PvP. If you have this War Hammer with a Life Staff You can take on many PvE games with ease, as you mow down enemies and repair any damage that you incur.
SPEAR
The Spear is notorious for knocking down everything in its path, which is entertaining in all scenarios. It deals decent damage, and also has a great stun in the Vault Kick. The knockdown, Sweep it is difficult for opponents to avoid in PvPbattles, however if and when you do get the ability, pairing it with an attack like the Spear together with another weapon, such as the Musket is a great combo to take them out in a 1-on-1 battle.
BOW
The Bow is quite effective in large scale PvP, but we prefer the Musket a little more for that, as it offers more burst damage - the Bow has the edge when it comes to PvE, however. There are a lot of devastating techniques to take down enemies however, it's difficult to hit your projectiles across long distances.
VOID GAUNTLET
The Void Gauntlet is the newest weapon to arrive in New World - it scales on focus and intelligence, and provides both ranged and melee options. There are also healing and debuffs. It is capable of dealing a significant amount of damage both in PvP and PvE as part of an intelligence-focused build. As of now, it doesn't rate highly on our list, but that may alter as players create stronger weapons and become more knowledgeable regarding the weapons.
MUSKET
It's possible that your experience using the Musket can be different - some players have found it hard to operate. It's a hitcan weapon which means there's no need to direct your shots, but you'll want to keep hitting those headshots consistently for enough damage. If you're not able to do this, do not worry about it. If you're a skilled shooter however the range of the Musket is excellent, and it's good for PvP in groups like Wars. The weapon also provides damage-over-time with its Powder Burn skill, and the Traps ability is fantastic for keeping enemies out.
