DIY Bathroom Renovation Project: Tiling the Floor of a Small Bathroom » S4 Network

The beige tile floor that is covered in a dark cement slurry is one of the things that annoys me the most. Right now, we are completely remodeling the bathroom. Therefore, today we removed everything from the bathtub as well as the mirror. I'm going to put in the floor using RIDGID's latest tile installation tool. After I had finished removing the remaining items from the bathroom, I positioned myself on the floor. I was able to pry up the tiles with the help of a large demo strip, and the result was very satisfying. The OSB and ditra that make up my bottom layer are each 3/4 inches thick.

This is the same material that was used in place of the base plate in the earlier iteration of this project. It functions as a membrane that uncouples as well as an agent that keeps water out. I took measurements of the floor and cut the ditta roll to the appropriate length using either scissors or a box cutting machine. Cutting the ditta roll is simple. I opened the doorway up a little bit, leaving about a quarter of an inch of space between the door and the wall. The second piece that is filling the room is not the full width, so I cut it to a certain size, and then I placed it on the floor so that it would refer to the bathroom flange. I used a box cutter to make the hole in the flange. Because of this, it is able to move easily through the opening in the OSB sub floor installation, and you will need to use modified mortar to fill the space between the wood and the bottom surface.

I used a brand new rigid mixer to combine a batch of mortar in this area. The amount of time needed for mixing is not excessive, wholesale floor tiles  and the process can be finished. This is not your typical drill at all. It is easy to burn out mortar if too much of it is mixed together and it is pushed too hard. I went with the thick milkshake option. After that, I gave it an excessive amount of slack and stirred it for ten minutes. Because the component does become more solid after being stirred, I might need to add some water to the mixture.

When you are finished mixing the mortar, the quickest way to clean the slurry mixer is to put a bucket of clean water inside the mixer, and then run the mixer at a high speed. This will ensure that all of the debris is removed. Scrub it right away. I want to apply mortar, and the proper tool for applying mortar is a V-notch trowel with a 3/16-inch blade that is used on a quarter-inch thickness. This thickness may differ depending on the substrate and the type of ditra you are using; therefore, it is important that you consult the Dietrich installation manual. I started by spreading mortar on the first floor, and then I moved on to spreading the larger piece. When approached from the side, the full-length plate can be difficult to manipulate.

It can be used interchangeably with any other plate. At the joint, a layer of Schluter Kerdi tape can be applied in order to ensure that the surface is completely waterproof. In point of fact, you can begin laying tiles on top of the dieter as soon as possible; however, seeing as how it is already late, I will return here the following day to begin laying tiles. I'm working with large format tiles that measure 24 inches by 12 inches, and I've spent some time trying to come up with the most effective layout. In order to plan the layout of my floor and tiles with the desired grout spacing, I turned to a program called SketchUp.

Permit me to experiment with a variety of methods of staggering and placement to see how they appear on the computer screen. Our objective is to make use of the maximum number of tiles that are whole and to ensure that there are no fissures or cracks in the vicinity of the walls or doors. A porcelain tiles for the tile pattern has been decided upon. When the two tiles are not horizontal to one another, there is an overlap of one-third of the tile between them, which helps to cut down on the accumulation of grease. It is more likely to occur on these larger tiles because they are not always flat, and when the printed pattern is used on the floor, it is helpful to place all of the tiles in different boxes so as to avoid repetition. This can be done by following the instructions that came with the tiles. We are obligated to use it even if there are duplicate tiles. Simply turn porcelain tiles wholesale over, make it into a cutting piece, or put it somewhere discreet like the dressing table or the bathroom.

After we have achieved the desired layout, we will mark each tile, and then we will move those markings over to the printout  outdoor tiles on the computer. This is the way that we plan to design it. We can make use of it as a reference in the process of laying tiles, which will prevent any confusion from occurring. If you are new here, I must say that I am impressed with what I have seen so far. Please continue to subscribe, and feel free to share your thoughts below.

It is challenging for instructors to get the hang of the trick. It is highly recommended that mortar be applied to waffles in order to fill the space. I used a square trowel that measured half an inch by half an inch. After finishing the first row of drawings on the wall next to the door, I continued my way down the wall.

You have the opportunity to learn more about him. I walked as far as I could until I reached the wall off in the distance. Now it's time to cut the flange off the toilet. We are currently in the most intense phase of the process. Because the clay is beginning to harden, I decided not to shoot it. But let me break it down for you like this. It is possible to cut the curb cut with a wet saw; however, I used an angle grinder equipped with a diamond embedded wheel.

The key to success here is to make a very small cut. It is important to keep the grinder clean because cutting tiles generates a significant amount of dust and debris. Because of this, it is imperative that you protect your eyes with your lungs. After using the restroom, I exited the room and positioned the final piece of ceramic tile in its proper place at the entrance. The level Max system does a good job of maintaining the tiles' alignment in the current game.

The routine of setting the tiles in place with a 2x4 carpet is broken thanks to this change in behavior. Now, after the mortar has dried for a full twenty-four hours, I will come back and knock the tile off the handle of the spacer, and this particular part here might be the most interesting part of the entire work. Break the handle of the spacer quickly with one foot, and the remaining piece should be positioned underneath the ceramic tile. It is possible to undo the top and reuse it. I've been cleaning up any excess mortar or loose mortar on the joints, and then I vacuum everything up. I feel like this might be a new technique for relieving stress. We concentrated on the tiles as the primary target of our efforts to make the cement slurry joints disappear, and we used a light cement slurry to help achieve this.

After the cement slurry has been applied to all of the floors, it will then be removed. I gave the damp sponge a final thorough rinsing. You should really unscrew the sponge so that the cement slurry does not put any more water in it. This is because adding more water may cause the joint to become discolored and weaker. If you do not remove the sponge, the cement slurry may put more water in it. I gave the cement slurry the entire night to dry, and then I returned the following day to remove the haze that had formed on the cement slurry. There were a few unsightly spots that required me to remove them with demister, and it worked really well with microfiber towels. After applying colored joint filler to the space between the bathtub and the floor, I would proceed to reinstall the baseboards. Previously, this was my routine.
